Scores and Highlights:

On 7/10 Bryan's Marathon played Cleveland Heights in a rematch of the 1st and 2nd place teams. Morgan Mackay pitched 6 of the 7 innings and Michelle Krebs pitched gave Morgan a breather by pitching the 5th inning. Caroline Becker endured the humidity and put on the catcher's gear for the entire game (what a trooper). Lead off batter, CeCe Barrett got the offense rolling by hitting a double and a triple with 2 walks and scored 4 runs. Not do be outdone, Morgan McClain was a double from hitting for the cycle, She ended up with 5 RBI's and 4 runs scored. Mia Mastrioanni and Michelle each added 3 RBI's while Morgan Mackay, Caroline and Sara Liptow each added 2 RBI's.

The game was close going into the 7th inning with South Euclid hanging on to a 16 - 11 lead.  South Euclid erupted for their most productive inning of the season by scoring 10 runs in the 7th inning and then shut down Cleveland Heights in the bottom of the 7th inning for a 26 - 11 victory and remain undefeated in the Hillcrest 12U league.

On 7/7  Bryan's Marathon hosted Shaker Heights #1 at Notre Dame College. The South Euclid pitching staff of Morgan Mackay and Michelle Krebs gave up 6 runs on 10 hits and 3 walks over 5 innings. South Euclid got on the board early, scoring 5 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Maggie King reach base all 3 times and scored each time. Mia Mastrioanni and Michelle each had 2 RBI's and scored twice. Gabrielle Caroscio had 2 RBI's and scored once. Maggie, Mia and Morgan all stole home in the game. When all the hitting and stealing was completed, South Euclid ended up scoring 18 runs.

On 7/1 Bryan's Marathon travelled to Shaker Heights to take on the third place team.  With 4 of the second year players missing from tonight's line-up, the pressure was put on all 9 girls in order to keep their winning streak alive. South Euclid was forced to move girls around to positions they were unfamiliar with and maintained their composure to post a 19 - 11 victory. Eden Allen who had enjoyed switching places in the outfield was asked to place 2nd base. After recording a force out at 2nd base, I'll be hard pressed to get her back in the outfield. Our 11 year olds, Maggie King, Gabrielle Caroscio, Morgan McClain and Eden all made some nice plays in the infield. Mia Mastroianni led the offense with 4 RBI's. Morgan Mackay added 2 RBI's and scored 4 runs. Caroline Becker added 2 RBI's and crossed home plate 3 times. Abbie Barrett reached base all 5 times and scored 4 runs.

On 6/24 South Euclid's Bryan's Marathon visited neighboring Lyndhurst green. Bryan's Marathon continued their pitching consistency by giving up all the runs scored by Lyndhurst in one inning. Pitching was led by Morgan Mackay, Grace Filippo and Mia Mastrioanni. Caroline Becker added some defensive highlights by throwing out a runner attempting to steal second base. The offensive juggernaut was led by Grace who had 2 triples and 5 RBI's. Mia added 4 RBI's and scored twice. CeCe Barrett added 3 RBI's while Morgan and Eden Allen each added two RBI's. Our Sr. Pigtail call up Paige Allen had 3 hits, stole 4 bases and scored twice.

On 6/19, S. Euclid's Bryan's Marathon fielded a complete team for the second time of the season en route to a 26 - 3 victory over Lyndhurst Orange. Again the pitching staff gave up all 3 runs in one inning (3rd),  and then silenced the Lyndhurst bats for the remainder of the game.

Offensive kudos to Caroline Becker who went 4 for 4,  with 4 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Michelle Krebs was also 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's and 4 runs scored. CeCe Barrett and Eden Allen each added 3 RBI's and Morgan Mackay scored 4 times and added 2 RBI's.

On 6/17, South Euclid's Bryan's Marathon defeated Shaker Heights team #2  31 - 3. After giving up 3 runs in the 1st inning the pitching staff of Grace Filippo, Michelle Krebs, and Mia Mastrioanni settled down to give up only two base hits for the remainder of the game. They combined to strike out 8 batters in the game. The offense was led by CeCe Barrett, who hit her first home run of the season, reached base all five times, scored 5 runs and added 4 RBI's. Not to be outdone, Abbie Barrett also reached base all five times at bat, scoring 3 runs and adding 3 RBI's. Morgan McClain added 4 RBI's, Eden Allen scored 2 runs and added 2 RBI's.

On 6/12, S. Euclid Bryan's Marathon defeated Lyndhurst Green 19-5 to remain undefeated in the Hillcrest 12U League.  Veteran pitchers, Morgan Mackay, Michelle Krebs, and Grace Filippo were helped out by Caroline Becker and Mia Mastrioanni, both making their pitching debuts.  Offense was led by Filippo with 6 RBI's!  Mackay contributed 3 RBI's,  Abbie Barrett, Mastrioanni, and Becker added 2 each, and Eden Allen knocked one in.  Sara Liptow and Mackay, crossed the plate 3 times, Maggie King, Filippo, Krebs, Becker, Mastrioanni, and Morgan McClain all scored twice, while Allen and Gabrielle Caroscio each added one to the score book.

On 6/11,   S. Euclid Bryan's Marathon 12U fastpitch team extends their winning streak by defeating Cleveland Heights 21-9.  Pitchers Morgan Mackay and Michelle Krebs couldn't have asked for better offensive support in a come from behind win, as the team combined for a total of 15 hits, including home runs by Caroline Becker and Grace Filippo.

On May 29th, South Euclid 12U Fastpitch sponsored by Bryans's Marathon defeated Cleveland Heights 15 - 8 to remain undefeated in the Hillcrest League.  Defense was led by the pitching staff of Morgan Mackay, Grace Fillipo, and Michelle Krebs. The strong arm of Caroline Becker threw out a runner trying to steal second base.  Impressive  offensive statistics were posted by Becker and Mia Mastroianni with 3 RBI's, Fillipo with 2 RBI's, while Abbie Barrett and Morgan McClain each delivered 1 RBI.  Mackay and Krebs both stole home,  Maggie King scored twice and Gabrielle Caruscio reached base 4 times.

On Tuesday 5/27 the South Euclid 12U girls fastpitch softball team defeated Shaker Heights (Cheverine) 16 - 4. Michelle Krebs and Morgan Mackay combined to strike out 8 batters. Grace Filippo set the tone for the offense when she stole home to cap off a 4 run first inning. The offense was led by Caroline Becker and Morgan Mackay, each had 3 RBI. Maggie King, Sara Liptow, Grace Filippo, Caroline Becker and Morgan Mackay each scored twice.

On Thursday 5/22 the South Euclid 12U fastpitch team began the season with a victory over Shaker Heights (Sullivan) 22 - 1. The South Euclid pitching staff of Michelle Krebs, Morgan Mackay and Morgan McClain held Shaker Heights to one hit and three walks. The offense was led by Mia Mastroianni's five RBI, while Morgan Mackay and Caroline Becker each scored 5 runs.

Highlights from 7/16 South Euclid LABARBERIA 14 vs Lyndhurst Blue 7.

On Wed.7/16 The LABARBERIA (PINK LADIES) won another one (3rd one in a row)14-7 against Lyndhurst Blue. We were down 2-1 in the 3rd inning. By the bottom of the 4th inning our bats came alive we scored 6 more runs Lynd scored 0. By the 6th inning being the home team, we scored 7 more runs and the game was over. With all the excitement we moved onto the

Highlights from 7/16 South Euclid LABARBERIA 10 vs Shaker Hts. #2   3.

On 7/16, the second round of playoffs, the LABARBERIA GIRLS, did it again. Winning 10-3 against Shaker Hts #2, the team that just run ruled us the week before. The "PINK LADIES" were on fire tonight. Kristen's pitching and Jenna's catching have been KEY to our game. The game started us off telling the Shaker girls you cannot steal home on us, a ball hit to the outfield stopped by Nicole Able then thrown to Therese Becker at SS who, with her amazing arm, threw home to Jenna and tagged the runner OUT!!!!  Lauren Smith learned being in the right place at the right time is crucial to the game when a fly ball was soaring to the outfield she stuck her glove up and made another out!! Communication is just as important in the outfield when Joanna and Alex (Bob) went for another ball clubbed to the outfield without calling off one another they both went to catch the ball, it is a good thing Joanna is tall because she was able to reach on top of Bob and make the catch! AND of course our base running HUGE part of our success in playoffs watching your base coaches without hesitation always brings in RUNS!!! Great Game ,now we are on to round #3 against Lyndhurst Navy- more info to follow....

Highlights from 7/2 South Euclid LABARBERIA 10 vs Mayfield 14.

This game was one of our better hitting games. Our girls did not sit there looking for walks we were very aggressive at the plate looking to get hits, that's what the game is all about HITTING.  I was proud of all our PINK LADIES.  Nicole Greisl 1st time at bats for the evening stepped up with a TRIPLE and brought in a run to start us off. Our second inning Beth, Lauren and Caty ran in scoring 3 more runs for us, to keep us on top. We played hard, in the 5th inning Lizzy, Tori, Nicole G. and Kristen all crossed the plate also that brought the game closer but not close enough because we ran out of time to come back again, BUT if you missed any of this ask Mr. Schlessel, he has PICTURES OF IT ALL!!!

WE ARE PROUD OF ALL OF OUR PINK LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coach Greisl, Coach Cabral and Coach Schlessel, official team photographer!!!

Highlights from 7/1 South Euclid LABARBERIA 20 vs. Shaker Hts. #1 11. SE wins!!

This was a great game defensively and offensively by the LABARBERIA GIRLS. 9 out of our 10 players crossed the home plate at least once to help in our win. Alex, Bob, was up to bat 4 times and scored all 4 times up at bat. She also helped out the team at first base for this game and did a great job. The big news of the game when JENNA SCHLESSEL came up to bat in the 6th inning and smacked the ball WAY out to center field, she brought 2 runs in and as she was rounding second Coach Greisl was waving her into 3rd telling her if she wants it she needs to run hard and go in sliding, that's just what she did to give herself and the team a HOME RUN!!! Congrats Jenna!!

And congrats to the PINK LADIES FOR ANOTHER WIN!!!!!

S.E. Boneyard  20  Lyndhurst Red  0

It was "a walk in the park" for the South Euclid fastpitch team when they run ruled Lyndhurst Red on 6/19/08.  There was "a whole lotta stealin' goin on," as well as a whole lota hitting, catching and throwing" when Coach "Fagin" Algeri's orange shirted motley crew added another one to the win column.  Some game highlights included poor Rachel Slack, taking another one for the team.  That girl needs to learn how to duck!  Missy Algeri made an unassisted double play from the pither's circle in the 2nd inning.  Becky Rohwer drove in 3 runs with a sweet bunt, and not to be outdone, Ashley Alnadi did not have to say one single *%*#*^* word as she pulverized the ball for a grand slam to end the game in the 4th inning.

S.E. La Barberia  17   Mayfield  16

The umpire was late, which caused a 10 minute delay, but it was worth it!  The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats for 3 hours in a game under the lights at Bexley Park on 6/17/08.  Starting pitcher Beth Fry battled well, keeping the Mayfield bats in check, as the lead changed sides several times.  Reliever Nicole Griesl couldn't have wished for better offensive support, as the pink shirted base runners, led by aggressive 3rd base Coach Griesl, took a page out of Tom "Fagin" Algeri's book,  with all the stealing going on that night.  After a few "words of encouragement" from Coach Cabral, the Labarberia ladies got down, dirty, and a little bloody, sliding under tag after tag.  Speedster Griesl helped herself, with awesome heads up base running, including a slide to steal home.  Therese Becker avoided a put out at second, when the opposing catcher made a very good throw, as she slipped under the tag as well.
With a tie score, and 2 minutes left, South Euclid took the field at the top of the last inning, and things started to look dim for our tiring heroes when Mayfield took advantage of several errors, and crossed the plate 6 times, for what at first appeared to be an overwhelming late game lead. Then the game on the next field finished, and South Euclid's orange shirted Boneyard team came over to cheer on their friends, breathing some last minute fire into their bellies.   There was one out, and runners on 2nd and 3rd, suddenly, the field lights went out!  The Mayfield coach commented that we hadn't paid our electric bill.  After another short delay, the lights were turned back on, but on the other field, so both teams switched fields and benches to finish the game.  It was 2 outs and the bases were loaded,  shortstop Becker fielded a hard grounder and threw home for the 3rd out, giving South Euclid their last turn at bat. Greisl started off the inning with a walk,  Tori Losue hit for a single, then Becker walked to load the bases.  Jenna Schlessel's double drove in 2 runs, Johanna Hallisy's hit added another run for the good guys.  Lauren Smith walked to load the bases again.  Alex "Bob" Runmmel slammed a triple, adding 3 more to tie the game with no outs!  With the winning run on third, South Euclid batters were walked intentionally to load the bases, and force the out at home.  But Coach Griesl doesn't play Lizzy Knab in the lead off spot for nothing, as she patiently drew a walk to advance the winning run home!

S.E. Boneyard 20   Lyndhurst Red  3

It was a lopsided victory on 6/14/08 when the S.E. Boneyard run ruled Lyndhurst Red 20-3 in the Hillcrest 14U fastpitch league.  Coach Tom Algeri earned the new nickname "Fagin," as there was a lot of thievery going on that night by his girls.  Speedster daughter Missy, now known as the "artful Dodger" led the hooligans with 3 stolen bases.  Rachel Slack, Kristen Grady, and Lindsey Lott were also seen "stealing" that day.  Slack "took one for the team" when she was beaned by a wild pitch, and later came back to bunt for 2 RBI's.   Lott, Morgan Mackay, and Grace  Filippo  added RBI's to their stats as well.  Defense was led by pitchers Algeri and Tory Barrett.  backed up by  some spectacular plays, including a throw down to first by catcher Ashley Alnadi,  catching a Lyndhurst runner off guard, and  an awesome relay throw to first by 3rd baseman Becky  Rowher for the out!

South Euclid LaBarberia  16     Lyndhurst Red   16

It was an exciting game on 6/5/08, when the pink shirted South Euclid's Labarberia battled Lyndhurst Red to a 16-16 tie.  Coach Greisl's players fired up their bats in the last 2 innings, scoring 11 of their 16 runs!

South Euclid LaBarberia  23   Shaker Heights Team #1    1

In a home game on 5/29/08, South Euclid's 14U Fastpitch team, sponsored by LaBarberia, shut down Shaker Heights team #1 by an overwhelming score of 23-1.

Offense was led by Thesese Becker, with a base clearing triple.  She graciously forgave conservative 3rd base Coach Mark S.,  for robbing her of a grand slam by holding her up at third.  All around solid defense was led by pitchers Kristen Nemeth and Nicole Greisl, combining for 6 strike-outs.

South Euclid "BoneYard"  12  Shaker Heights (green) 0

Coach Tom Algeri's athletes, sponsored by The Boneyard, overwhelmed the Shaker Heights Green team when they run ruled them on 6/2/08 in the Hillcrest Fastpitch League.  Starting pitcher Kelly O'Brien pitched for 3 perfect innings, and not to be outdone, reliever Tory Barrett finished with 2 more!  Backed up by strong defense led by middle infielders shortstop Kim Zemel and second baseman Lindsay Lott,  the  South Euclid crew could do no wrong.  Catcher Missy Algeri nailed 3 runners trying to steal 1st on dropped third strikes, and combined with 1st baseman Haylie Rolen for a double play.  In the outfield, Becky Rower caught a long ball in left, for the third out in the first inning.  Offensive kudos to speedster Morgan Mackay, who stole third base.  Rachel Slack's sacrifice brought in 2 runs, and Kristen Grady finished the game by driving in the 12th run to obtain the shut out in the 5th inning.
